Tvm: KSRTC Blog, the KSRTC bus users blog today organised an interactive session on ‘KSRTC and the public’ in association with the KSRTC Travellers’ Forum in Trivandrum.
Sujith Bhakthan, the blog Administrator took up the grievances with the top management of KSRTC, on behalf of the commuters who have posted their complaints on the blog. Mr. T P Senkumar, MD, KSRTC; R Gopalakrishnan Nair, Vigilance Officer, KSRTC and senior trade union leaders who were present on the occasion gave a patient hearing to the long list of complaints. Along with the complaints, there were a few practical suggestions too, which the KSRTC has agreed to implement.
Mr. Senkumar while replying to the grievances said that KSRTC was facing a severe manpower crunch and this was hampering the daily operations to a great extent. At present there is a shortage of 4,000 drivers while KSRTC plans to recruit 7,000 new conductors. The KSRTC fleet has 215 Super Fast and 700 odd Fast Passenger class buses. 74% buses are in the Ordinary category. AC Deluxe buses haven’t taken off well. KSRTC’s share of the bus coverage in the state is only 26% while there are 13,742 private buses.
KSRTC is improving the connectivity to Technopark and Infopark with the recently launched JNRUM Volvo buses but the patronage is very low. The timetables for these Volvo buses are being put up on all their stops. Presently KSRTC is providing transport services to Infosys and TCS in Technopark and talks are going with other companies like IBS.
There has been a very good response for the online reservation service of KSRTC for 182 buses that have been introduced. KSRTC will be introducing GPS tracking of buses soon and this is expected to improve the services. But KSRTC has a long way to go in IT implementation.
The KSRTC Blog was started in September 2008 by Sujith Bhakthan, a third year Engineering Student to help people who love KSRTC and for those who wish to see the KSRTC in a higher position.

This is to bring to your notice one of the reasons the KSRTC is in a horrid state.
I happen to be a regular commuter between Kalamassery and Angamally.
I have at least 4 occasions to cite like the one as below.
Today, 30.04.2010, I was at the Kalamassery premier ground stop at 7.30am, very little traffic,
and just 2 or 3 commuters. I signalled for a stop as usual but the driver and conductor of the
JNURM low floor bus just stared at me and went on. Initially he just slowed at which I started to
run, but he sped off. There was not any body to get down at the Premier junction stop as well.
JNURM service is much appreciated by many like me and whenever a chance is there we try to make use of it.
We believe, this is just not a service,a right of every citizen.
Most of the drivers are very friendly, but one or two like the above is enough to
tarnish the good image the rest have created. If it was a busy hour, there could be an excuse.
No reason lamenting that the JNURM service is at a loss.
I would like to put forth 2 suggestions as well.
1. The destination on the scroll board should be there on at all times. Now the whole route is displayed
continuously, and we cannot make out which bus is approaching. By the time it reaches the stop we are confused
as to which destination the bus is plying to. Kindly make arrangements to display the destination permanently,
if possible in two rows, the upper one showing the destination, and the lower row, the route.
2. If not in the busy hour, even if the bus is not in a desgnated stop, the senior citizens, ladies and children
should be allowed to embark, as well as alight the bus on request.
Thank you sir.

I am a regular passenger of KSRTC bus from Thakazhy temple stop to Thiruvalla. Some times I am going by fast passenger. The ordinary charge is Rs.12.50/- and fast passenger charge is Rs.18/-, which is equal to the charge of Ambalapuzha-Thiruvalla (Ambalapuzha is nearly 6-km far away from Thakazhy temple stop.) It is a big financial loss to the daily passengers. It is my request is that, being the Thakazhy temple stop is the main stop and fare stage would be re-consider from this stop for the convenience of all the passengers who start their journey from from here.
Hope you look in to the matter seriously and do the needful.
Thank you sir
I was traveling from Kayamkulam to changanassery on 26/03/2011 by bus no: RRM672 at about 10:30AM .I am a senior citizen, aged 69 years . I do not keep goood health and have a cardiac pacemaker implanted.I am suffering also from urological problems, cervical and other spondilosis, thyroid problems etc .I requested the young persons who were occupying the 2 seats earmarked for elderly persons in the bus.
The young occupants flatly refused and one of them started arguing that he is traveling up to Kottayam.
Hence I requested the bus conductor to use his good offices and get me a seat earmarked for senior citizens/elderly persons.I also explained him my health conditions and shown him the certificate issued to me as proof for pace maker implantation issued by the competent authority.
But the conductor was rude and refused to intervene. He also asked me to"go and complain in the phone number given in the ticket,There is no provision for a sick person to get a seat in KSRTC. "Though I explained him again that I am only requesting him to use the good offices to get me a seat reserved for senior citizens, he did not ask the young persons who occupied the seat to vacate.
Hence I have made a verbal complaint in KSRTC control room to the KSRTC officer who attended my phone call.(He did not give me name though asked).
I believe the action of the conductor is not correct and he has failed in his duty to enforce the guidelines given by KSRTC authorities to the staff.Hence I request you to take suitable action against the young conductor also.
2.I had similar experience earlier also in a bus from Kollam to Ernakulam when I was traveling from Kollam to Kayam kulam.
3.I also request you to give an internal circular so that all conductors and staff reminding them to use their good offices to get elderly persons the seat earmarked for senior citizens when occupied by youth.

i travel daily from aluva to perumbavoor.
1) it is told that the rate of student concession will not be raised alongwith the recent hike. But the earlier card fare of 195/3month is raised to 300/3month.
2)Newspapers disclosed that the concession facility could be availed on Saturdays and Sundays. But pathetically that offer is also not fulfilled.
3)Concession facility could not be accessed in fairstage ltd. stop buses though the normal fare of it is equivalent to ordinary buses.
4) During peak hours at school-college time, there are no sufficient services.
so, we have no space even to stand with a heavy burden of bag in the crowded buses.
5)We students and North Indian Contract labourers are congested in our daily journeys
Last day a conductor abused us for not jumping out of the bus at the stop.
Pls Help in this regard.

I am a professional course student travelling daily on concession facility of KSRTC from perumbavoor to aluva.
I am Sorry to say that the conductor on duty on 3rd jan 2012 5pm to 5.45pm in KL15.4170 used filthily abusive language on me for getting out as the last person from the bus. It is an open insult to the womanhood. I have no previous acquaintance with the man.
My parents have made a complaint to the ATO, perumbavoor in this regard.
I am highly aggrieved of the issue.
Please take appropriate steps to remedy us.
