Kerala proposes Knowledge City under Vision 2030 initiative

E-mail

Tvm: The Kerala Government has proposed an integrated Knowledge City project under the Vision 2030 initiative. This was one of the ten projects discussed by Sam Pitroda, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Public Infrastructure, Information and Innovations and also, State Mentor for Vision 2030, during an interaction with the Chief Minister, Shri Oommen Chandy and his Council of Ministers including Deputy Chairman, Planning Board in Trivandrum today.

Briefing the media, Pitroda said, “We will present a white paper on these projects within 90 days. We feel confident that some of these things will move forward. Of the ten, may be five could be possible and, even if two or three becomes a reality, the success rate will be good and it would work out well for the State. The projects will have to be executed under the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) mode.”

According to him, the proposed Knowledge City will have the ecosystem for innovation and will be the one place for knowledge workers to work and live. Residential apartments, retail malls, schools, hospitals and recreational space would make up the support infrastructure for a 24x7 IT community living. This kind of a platform would attract talent to come to Kerala.

Other projects discussed include strengthening the vocational education system in the State using knowledge network and through IT, a scheme to provide health insurance to all mobile phone users, modernisation of traditional industries using new technology and steps to expedite e-governance in Kerala by taking advantage of what has been done in other States.

The CM said, “As part of Vision 2030, we have to get back lost development opportunities. We lost so many chances in the past in infrastructure development that we cannot afford to miss the bus again.”
