IT Employees Union demands better working conditions & social security

E-mail

Tvm: In an effort to consolidate its base in Kerala, the CITU backed Association of IT Employees (AITE) has asked the Government to ensure social security for IT employees while demanding better working conditions for those employed in the IT industry in Kerala. AITE is the first independent trade union of IT employees and claims to have a membership of about 10,000 in Kerala. AITE is organising a Secretariat march on November 11, 2011 to protest against the exploitation in the IT industry and to press for its demands.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, A D Jayan, State General Secretary, AITE said that most IT firms in Kerala, especially BPOs, Call Centres and those engaged in Data Entry / Processing jobs are paying meagre salary to their staff even while their office hours extend up to 12 hours in a day. He alleged that several companies, including those in Technopark, Trivandrum and Infopark, Kochi are denying benefits such as PF, ESI and other statutory benefits to their employees. He also added that even government organisations like C-Dit, Kerala State IT Mission, Information Kerala Mission, Akshaya and IT@School were exploiting their IT employees similar to the IT companies in the private sector.

K S Sunil Kumar, Trivandrum District President demanded the setting up of a welfare board for the IT sector and asked the government to declare the minimum wages for IT employees. He mentioned that in spite of high educational qualifications, IT employees are being denied their legitimate benefits and social justice.

The Association office bearers also demanded a vigilance inquiry against the Director of Akshaya over his alleged role in the allotment of 700 new Akshaya centres, orders regarding purchase of equipments and contracts to private agencies. Jayan also said that Akshaya entrepreneurs had invested over Rs.100 crore to purchase of new equipment for Aadhaar (UID) enrolment and now they stand to loose this investment as new contracts are being given to private agencies. Association members later held a dharna in front of the Akshaya State Office in Thiruvananthapuram.

It is usual in Kerala that a good leadership and a new project has to face allegations at the initial stage itself which often ends in the withdrawal of the project or its failure. Same thing is happening in the case of Aadhaar project and the Akshaya Director.A project which i think will be a milestone in the history of Akshaya and a person appointed by the last government who proved his ability and leadership quality through innovative ideas are facing allegations and inquiry is being demanded in this case.I think such moves will only ruin the project and the lose will be alone to the entrepreneur.

Everyone know Whats is Akshaya and through whom the projects are run successfully. A Director should stand for the Akshaya entrepreneurs rather then for Pvt Companies. When there is so much allegations against him , he should step down and be ready to face any inquiry. And prove that his hands are clean rather then sticking on the chair of the Director and pointing to few Akshaya entrepreneurs that they are giving false information and spreading wrong news. Entire Akshayaites in Kerala will welcome him kindheartedly if his hand are clean. No one is blaming him and accusing him that he is corrupt. Let time prove that "WHO IS RIGHT and WHO is WRONG"

For Aadhaar enrolment, Akshaya entrepreneurs purchased the enrolment kit as per the make and specification approved and displayed in UIDAI website. Akshaya state project has not done any purchase for them. On an average 1.5 lakh is the cost of one set of equipments. Akshaya entrepreneurs purchased totally 700 sets. That’s comes totally 10 cr only.

It is true that 10 cr was spend by Akshaya Entrepreneurs, is it possible to get the gain for their business?? Then more questions will pending.. Which is mandatory UID or NPR? Who will get money for enrollment?? If both how many extra cr will spend by gov for the same purpose? Lack of planning and awareness will lead akshaya put in to a dig of corruption. The higher authority must give exact clarification to the Akshaya entrepreneurs about the payments.

The aadhar project also have hell lot of problems faced by poor akshaya entrepreneurs. They have to run pillar to post to get the system operational. The entire uid team have only one person to assist .It is very pity to see him. (pratapan from akshaya district office alappuzha)

The director has to take immediate steps to solve the problems faced by akshaya alappuzha entrepreneurs

The amount of enmity towards the management is increasing day by day.
Hope your are looking into it..

The major motive of this IT association is not the welfare of the employees. The leaderships agenda is to increase the membership and slowly covert them to affiliated to political parties. As all the parties identified that new generation employees are not active in parties these days.

this is going to happen.

1 they will Increase membership base
2. Some selected persons will come as office bearers of state and districts.
3. those people will find good people in IT companies and make units there.
4. CITU will declare a nationwide strike and all IT companies in Kerala will shut down and other offices in other states will work.
5. Big IT companies will survive as they have other offices outside Kerala for continuity.
6. the small IT companies who has SLA and delivery deadline will lose clients. So even president of india can't get their contract again.
7. naturally the small IT company owner will either terminate those employees or try to keep them by taking money from other departments.
8. employees will be unhappy
9. employer will terminate some low performers.
10. union leader will come and ask u to take them back.
11. strike begins.
12. some more other projects will go.
13. clever people will open office in palani, madhiurai, chennai, or mysore.
14. those who can't go out from kerala will disucss with union leaders.
15. stikes contunues. you will lose more projects.
16, salary date will come
17. clients won't pay.
18. you stop your dream IT company and go find another job in bangalore.
