It’s celebration time at Kerala IT News, we turn two

Tvm: Kerala IT News, the first and only comprehensive IT News portal in and from Kerala, is celebrating its second birthday today. The completion of two years is a major milestone for this dream project. We also got included in the official Media List of the Information & Public Relations Department (I&PRD), Govt. of Kerala during this period. We place on record our appreciation to our readers and well wishers from the bottom of our hearts for all the support and encouragement that you have given us.

In his comments, Rajendra Pawar, Chairman, Nasscom termed Kerala IT News as a unique initiative and remarked that this is probably the first ever State centric IT news portal in the country. In his message, Mervin Alexander, CEO, Technopark said Kerala IT News has been a big support for the growth of the IT industry in Kerala.

Kerala IT News was launched with a focus on IT in Kerala, irrespective of where the news comes from. We will cover it as long as there is a Kerala connection and as we look back, we feel we have been successful in achieving this objective. We have also set new standards in the news coverage of IT in Kerala. Although we are not in the business of breaking news, we have done it on several occasions using social media. As our contribution to the growth of IT in Kerala, we have been successful in bringing an Indian MNC to set shop in Technopark, Trivandrum. A formal announcement of this project is expected soon.

In the last two years, we have got good response from the IT Industry and the IT Professionals. There has been a quantum jump in readership, as we get 2,025 visits and 14,486 page views on a daily basis (daily average). About 77.45% of these visits are from India followed by UAE, US & Saudi Arabia. In India, 26.73% readers are from Kochi, 17.56% from Trivandrum and 12.59% from Bangalore. In the last one year the website has got hits from 169 countries round the globe.

While direct traffic accounts for only 15.27%, the bulk of the traffic (74.75%) comes from Search Engines. Referring sites (social media) contribute the remaining 9.98%. We are very active on our Facebook page with 652 likes. Out of this, 563 are active users which results in 34,094 post views every month (on Facebook). We also have 470 tweeple who follow us on Twitter.

But the going has not been a smooth affair. Since March 2010 we have not got a single press release or invite from Kerala IT - the Department of IT, Government of Kerala, regarding their programmes or events. This includes Technopark, Infopark, Cyberpark, Akshaya, IT Mission or ICFOSS. What goes on the site is based on our efforts or direct inputs from the officials there. Probably the PR Agency which handles Kerala IT does not believe in online coverage for their clients.

We also thank the CXOs & Corporate Communications team of IT Companies, Industry bodies like GTech & CII, PR Agencies (in and outside Kerala) and the various Government Departments, particularly I&PRD and Kerala Police on this occasion.

The domain KeralaITNews.com was registered on October 08, 2009. The news portal went live on the same day with archives from mid July, as the work had started much earlier.
