Alappuzha: Infosys is planning to invest about Rs.800 crores in Kerala over the next five years to expand its operations and expects to generate 10,000 new jobs here. This was disclosed by S D Shibulal, CEO, Infosys at Alappuzha on Saturday. Shibulal, who is from Muhamma in Alappuzha District, was in town to receive felicitations from the Alappuzha Press Club, on his becoming the Infosys CEO.

Speaking at the face to face programme, Shibulal said that Infosys has set a target of 45,000 campus recruits this year and has already recruited about 15,000. Infosys is also working with 28 Engineering Colleges in Kerala to improve the quality of students passing out from there. He mentioned that Infosys contributed around Rs.608 crores to the total IT exports from Kerala, which was around Rs.3,200 crores. He commented that Infosys is doing well here and this reflects the changing investment climate of the State adding that there were no labour issues at the Infosys centres in Kerala. The Trivandrum centre is the fastest growing centre of Infosys across the country at 30 percent annually.

Infosys has two development centres in Thiruvananthapuram employing about 4,100 professionals. Starting its Kerala operations in January 2004 at Technopark, Trivandrum, Infosys now has its own campus adjacent to Technopark which forms part of Technopark Phase II Special Economic Zone (SEZ).  Inaugurated in February this year with an investment of Rs.108 crores, the campus spread over 50 acres; will have 1.5 million sq. ft. built-up space when complete. Infosys has over 1,42,000 employees in over 50 offices worldwide.
