Thiruvalla: The Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar will be web-streaming the Episcopal Consecration service of three of its new Bishops to be held on August 13, 2011, live from the church headquarters in Thiruvalla, Kerala. According to sources at the Church HQ, this is the first ever web-streaming from the headquarters and this also marks the first time that such an event is being webcast.
The Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church (Malankara Mar Thoma Suriyani Sabha as it is called in Malayalam) is one of the oldest groups of praticising Christians in this part of the world. Headquartered at the SCS Campus in Thiruvalla (Pathanamthitta District), the church has over a million members spread worldwide with about 1166 Parishes & Congregations.
The live webcast of the Episcopal Consecration of the Rambans, as the designated priests are called, can be seen on the Church website (tv.marthoma.in) from 7.00 am IST onwards. The Episcopal Consecration Service will begin at 7:30 am.
The church authorities hope that the webcast of the Episcopal Consecration will attract a large number of viewers from the Middle East and the United States, where the church has a strong presence. They are also of the view that the web-streaming will help the new generation of its members to see and understand the traditions of the Church.
