SmartCity will be a reality: CM

E-mail

Tvm: Chief Minister Shri V S Achuthanandan said today that the proposed SmartCity project in Kochi will certainly be a reality even if the present developer, Tecom pulls out of the project. “We are committed to the project. This would go ahead even if the developer backs out”.

He was briefing reporters after the weekly cabinet meeting. On asked if the government was looking for new partners, the CM said: “If need be, we will. But before doing that we want to talk to them again.”

The Chief Minister had last week said SmartCity Dubai was “broke” and he repeated his claim today also, ”the company was facing some problems as its major Arab financiers lost huge sums when the US banks collapsed last year. They are upset and we know what their financial position is”. The date for the next round of talks is yet to be announced and indications are that it would be the last one and the ultimatum would be given to the company on going ahead with the project.
