National 3-Day FOSS Meet @ FISAT

Kochi: The Free Software Cell of the Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT) at Angamaly near Kochi is organising a national level FOSS meet ‘ICE-FOSS 10’ from April 19 to 21, 2010.

The conference will be inaugurated by K Anvar Sadath, Executive Director of IT@School Project. Some of the talks planned for the meet are ‘Why Free / Open Document Standards is Mandatory and not an Option’ by Dr. Nagarjuna G, Chairman of Free Software Foundation of India; ‘FOSS, GNU & Ethics’ by Amarnath Raja, CEO of InApp, Technopark; ‘git Version Control Systems’ by Vimal Joseph from SPACE and ‘Open Source in Education and Beyond’ by V K Adarsh.

There will be workshops on Kernel Programming by Ciju Rajan; Python by Ignatius Kunjumon, SciPy by Pramode C E and Qt by Unni. Open Discussions will also be held on Language Localisation and Malayalam Community and Open Source for the differently abled. Free software based projects executed by FISAT students will be on display during the conference. A localisation camp will also be held concurrently by Swathanthra Malayalam Computing.

The organisers are expecting about 250 delegates to attend the meet. The Fisat Free Software Cell was established in 2006 under the Computer Science Department of FISAT and is one of the most active Student Cells in the College. For more details about the event, visit the Icefoss website.
