UNESCO plans FOSS meet in Kerala

Tvm: UNESCO is planning to organise an international meet in Kerala to discuss applications of ‘FOSS in Education’ during March 2010.

 

Ms. Cecilia Barbieri, Education Programme Specialist for South Asia said this while speaking at the inaugural session of the School IT Mela being held at Technopark in Trivandrum. “Kerala has been a trendsetter in the field of using opens source in IT enabled education and the experience of Kerala in this field is outstanding. So it would be a way to showcase what is happening here and also share experiences from other States in India as well as from outside”.

 

UNESCO officials would interact with the State government to jointly host the international conference. “Though the details are yet to be worked out, we will be inviting resource persons from all over the country as well as other countries and regions,” she added. Ms. Barbieri was impressived with the School IT Mela organised by the IT@School project.


UNESCO is focussing on popularising the use of FOSS in the area of education and development of ICT tools.
