Tvm: Kerala Director General of Police, Jacob Punnoose IPS, has termed as baseless the news report about the alleged surveillance of email ids belonging to Muslims in the State, including those of Muslim League leaders and journalists, by the Intelligence Department of Kerala Police. In a press release, he clarified that neither the Police Officials nor the Government has hacked any email id or instructed any agency to hack into any email accounts. The DGP said it was unfortunate that such reports were being propagated to disturb the communal harmony in Kerala.
According to the DGP, as part of an investigation in a case, the investigating Officer had recovered 268 email ids from a person. Since it was not possible to get the identity details about the owner of the email address from the id, the Hitech Cell was asked to get the same from the email service providers. The passwords or the contents of these mail accounts were not requested for at any stage. Since it’s possible for anyone to open an email id in anyone’s name, the Police wanted to confirm the genuineness of these email addresses.
Madhyamam, a leading Malayalam publication, had reported that email ids of leaders, activists, professionals, students and journalists from the minority community in Kerala were subjected to surveillance by the Special Branch of Kerala Police. The report alleged that it was an attempt at religious profiling as out of the 268 e-mail accounts, 258 belonged to Muslims. It is said that none among them had any previous criminal backgrounds and so there was no clarity as to why they were put under surveillance. Chief Minister Shri Oommen Chandy had yesterday ordered a probe into the hacking incident after leading Muslim organisations in Kerala demanded the CM’s explanation in this issue.
Meanwhile, the opposition leader, Shri V S Achuthanandan today described the Kerala Government's act of snooping into email accounts as fascist and an intrusion of an individual’s privacy. In a statement, the former CM said that Oommen Chandy was following the footsteps of the US administrators and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

If you say , you didn't do it .. how come your department is asking for the login details of these individuals?
1. as a software engineer I know that Login details means solely User ID/Password combination. and nothing else...
2. It may be a new Kerala Police Software Architecture which says the Login Details means Name and Address.
3. How come you say that the news was intented to spread hate between the religious communities.. I am a muslim and I am not going to even look at my neighbour with a least bit gesture of hatred ...
