Kerala DGP terms media report about email hacking baseless

Tvm: Kerala Director General of Police, Jacob Punnoose IPS, has termed as baseless the news report about the alleged surveillance of email ids belonging to Muslims in the State, including those of Muslim League leaders and journalists, by the Intelligence Department of Kerala Police. In a press release, he clarified that neither the Police Officials nor the Government has hacked any email id or instructed any agency to hack into any email accounts. The DGP said it was unfortunate that such reports were being propagated to disturb the communal harmony in Kerala.

Kerala Chief Minister orders probe into alleged email hacking

Tvm: Kerala Chief Minister Shri Oommen Chandy has ordered an investigation into the allegations regarding hacking of email ids of leaders, activists, professionals, students and journalists from the minority community in Kerala. T P Sen Kumar, ADGP - Intelligence will conduct the investigation. A release from the CM’s office said, the order was based on an expose by Madhyamam Weekly, which in its latest edition claimed that 268 email ids belonging to Muslims have been subjected to surveillance by the Special Branch of Kerala Police.

Two day workshop on Cyber Security concludes at IMG

Tvm: The ‘Mid-Career interaction between Armed Forces and Civil Services Officers on Cyber Security’ concluded today at the Institute of Management in Government at Thiruvananthapuram. About 25 senior officers from the Armed Forces and Civil Services (IAS, IFS & IPS) attended the two day workshop on Cyber Security which was sponsored by the Department of personnel & Training, Government of India. The session was inaugurated by Dinesh Sharma IAS, Principal Secretary to CM, GoK on January 06, 2012.

Doctor in Police net for creating fake website with defamatory videos

Tvm: Saheer Muhammed, a 26 year old medical graduate who has done his higher studies from New Delhi and China, was arrested by the Kerala Cyber Crime Police on Friday from his residence in Manjeri in Malappuram District, for impersonation, creating a fake website in the name of a former Minister and for uploading defamatory videos on the site.

Youth arrested for posting morphed TV journos’ photos online

Tvm: Devdas, a 35 year old person from Thrissur District has been arrested by the Kerala Cyber Crime Police on charges of posting and circulating online morphed indecent photographs of journalists working with the popular Malayalam news channel, Asianet. The arrest was based on a complaint from Mahesh Chandran, a senior Reporter with the channel, to the Police high command.

Beware of fake Income Tax Refund emails

Tvm: With the closure of the financial year, phishing mails are back again. Tax Payers, especially those who have filed their Income Tax Returns online are getting mails informing them about their refunds. This is a latest cyber crime activity where criminals are trying to get users’ bank account details in the pretext of tax refund notification.

Techie alleges Copyright violation by News Portal

Tvm: An IT professional working in Kuwait has alleged Copyright Violation with the unauthorised use of his work by the leading Malayalam news portal, Manorama Online. The photograph takes up the lead banner space on the news portal’s special coverage page of a popular Christian convention in Kerala which began on Sunday. Noble Mathew, a native of Chengennur in Kerala, had uploaded the photo on Wikipedia and Panoramio.
