SmartCity Kochi Sales Pavilion to start operations from May

Kochi: Contrary to recent reports, SmartCity Kochi has made steady progress in the project covering the Concept Master Plan and the Sales Pavilion, according a release from the company. The SmartCity Kochi Pavilion is expected to be ready by first week of May 2012. The pavilion which was initially planned on an area of 6,000 sq. ft. will now be spread across a total built up area of 10,900 sq. ft.

Three websites in Kerala Police net for sharing Malayalam movies

Tvm: The Anti Piracy Cell of Kerala Police has registered cases against three websites for uploading and sharing pirated versions of Malayalam movies on their site. These file sharing sites are desitorrentz.com, moviejockey.com and malluvision.com. Each of these websites has more than 3 lakh registered users and is popular among Malayalee netizens.

IT@School to empower differentially abled students with ICT skills

Tvm: In order to realize the dream of the ‘Digital Inclusion’ programme in Kerala by empowering all students in the State in ICT, the IT@School project has planned to introduce specific ICT training programme for students who require special attention. As the first step, the training module for teachers has been developed and it is to be noted that this training programme is being developed entirely using the Free & Open Source Software (FOSS) based application, GCompris.

SmartCity Kochi moves at snail's pace, CM briefed about progress

Kochi: The much hyped about work on the SmartCity Kochi project seems to be on a very slow track and the construction of the SmartCity pavilion is well behind schedule. As per the deadline set by Tecom with the Kerala Government, the work on SmartCity Pavilion - the offices for the Administrative and Project Management team, was to be completed in four months but it’s still nowhere near completion.

Kerala DGP terms media report about email hacking baseless

Tvm: Kerala Director General of Police, Jacob Punnoose IPS, has termed as baseless the news report about the alleged surveillance of email ids belonging to Muslims in the State, including those of Muslim League leaders and journalists, by the Intelligence Department of Kerala Police. In a press release, he clarified that neither the Police Officials nor the Government has hacked any email id or instructed any agency to hack into any email accounts. The DGP said it was unfortunate that such reports were being propagated to disturb the communal harmony in Kerala.

ICFOSS to launch Android R & D, possible tie-up with Google

Tvm: The Technopark based International Centre for Free & Open Source Software (ICFOSS) is set to commence research and development activities on the popular smart-device platform, Android, through a composite project awarded to it by the Department of Information Technology (DIT), Government of India. Android is a FOSS-based generic Operating System platform for mobile phones, pads, slates, tablets and a variety of other emerging devices. It is promoted by the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of 84 IT and Telecom firms led by Google, which originally owned the platform.

Kerala Chief Minister orders probe into alleged email hacking

Tvm: Kerala Chief Minister Shri Oommen Chandy has ordered an investigation into the allegations regarding hacking of email ids of leaders, activists, professionals, students and journalists from the minority community in Kerala. T P Sen Kumar, ADGP - Intelligence will conduct the investigation. A release from the CM’s office said, the order was based on an expose by Madhyamam Weekly, which in its latest edition claimed that 268 email ids belonging to Muslims have been subjected to surveillance by the Special Branch of Kerala Police.
