Kerala Tourism launches online training for UK travel agents

E-mail

Tvm: Kerala Tourism has launched an online programme to train travel agents based in UK to make them familiar with the State’s tourism products. Kerala Tourism hopes these efforts would increase the tourist arrivals into God’s Own Country.

This novel venture of Kerala Tourism – ‘Kerala Specialist’programme was officially launched by Union Minister for Tourism Kumari Selja at the World Travel Mart 2009 in London on Tuesday.  The initiative is the first one of its kind by any state tourism corporation.

“Agents who successfully complete the online training programme will be awarded an official certificate, ‘Kerala Specialist’,” said Kerala Tourism Secretary V Venu. The programme has been developed in conjunction with Travel Uni, a British online trainer specialising in destination, cruise, resort and product-based training to the travel trade. The online programme could serve as a template for other tourism boards to emulate. Kerala Tourism will extend the training programme to other markets soon, Dr. Venu said. The programme is targeted at the 40,000-plus travel agents throughout the UK.
